InkScape is a tool created for people who want to edit vector images. Such files can be created in different premium or freeware applications and their main advantage is that they can be rescaled without a quality loss. This way, images can be designed at resolutions compatible with a normal PC and afterwards they can be stretched in order to be used for high quality large prints, for example. However, this is not just useful for business and any user that might want to design vector art can start right away, because this freeware app is designed to provide easy-to-use tools for everyone.
InkScape features a comprehensive user interface that provides two main tool bars, each of them being located on one side of the drawing board. The left toolbar provides quick access to the usual drawing tools that are also found in other apps. However, they are all redesigned to accustom vectors and their special properties. Even text boxes allow people to create vectorized text that can be resized, as well. The toolbox in the right area of the screen features interesting tools that are specially designed by the developers for vectors.
Using these tools, vectors can be edited in a number of ways: their overall size, width or length can be changed with ease and besides these simple operations, other complex path edits can be used in order to allow users to have more control over their images. The images are saved in SVG format and because of this, other applications that use the same file format will provide compatible vector images for InkScape. Vector nodes can be edited with ease in order to create closed areas of an image and solid colors or gradients can be further applied in these areas.
